Join the Running With Scissors Quilters team for 3 fun-filled days at the Swingin' Sixties Retreat. You will learn a unique method to make a six-pointed star in a square using the new Six In A Square© tool. We’ll be making three exciting projects; a wall hanging, a quilt available in 3 sizes, and a table runner. You may also choose to learn to use the tool in another way to make a great block.
The Six in a Square© Tool ($36.50 value-included with retreat ticket) is designed to make 60 degree angled units that are sewn together without any “Y” seams to create a 6 pointed star in a square. The completed blocks are slightly oversized and trimmed to perfection with the same tool. It is versatile enough to make 10 different finished size blocks from 3” to 12” and comes with illustrated step by step instructions for both left and right handed quilters. The blocks can then be incorporated into one of your favorite designs, with other traditional blocks, or in one of our patterns. The possibilities are endless!
CROSSROADS This first project will introduce you to the Six in a Square tool. Start your journey by making a stunning 44” square wall hanging that uses full and half stars.
NESTED STAR SPRINT Take your 60 degree skills to the next level and learn the Nested Star Sprint while creating this beautiful table runner. Once you have learned this technique the design possibilities are endless.
FRENCH TWIST A colorful variation on a traditional French Braid quilt. Gather an assortment of your favorite fabrics, your Six in a Square© tool and “Do the Twist”! Choose the size project you would like to make: Large (85” x 99”), Medium (66” x 76”), or Small (51” x 59”).
12 POINTED STAR SPRINT (optional) Eager for more…?? This optional session will teach the 12-Pointed Star Sprint by making a 12” block. After making the block, we will get the design juices flowing by discussing how color placement provides limitless variations.

We are a team of energetic quilting instructors. We truly enjoy quilting and we love to share by teaching classes, sharing quilts in trunk shows, lecturing and demonstrating. We have a passion for quilting and have furthered this by becoming Certified Studio 180 Design Instructors.
We also love to design patterns and tools and enjoy the creativity of freehand long-arming. In addition to creating patterns for Running with Scissors Quilters, the team has been published in Fons and Porter and has several patterns in the Studio 180 Design pattern line. We have recently branched into tool design, releasing Corner Pop II and Corner Pop III in collaboration with Studio 180 Design.
We’re proud to have quilts published in Hidden Treasures and Royal Treasures by Studio 180 Design, Deb Tucker and Accent on Angles by Susan Purney
We would love to share the Joy of Quilting with you.
